"When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be"
- Lao Tzu
It is through my encounter with Alzheimers disease that my interest in mental health accelerated. This encounter, like many things happening in my life was associated with my mother, who felt disappointed there was no emotional support in our town for people with poor memory or those who had been classified as having Alzheimers disease. At the age of 70 years young, she set up the charity Alzheimers Cafe Camberley, and soon became a great hit in not only our town but neighbouring towns. It is truly heart-warming to see the people enjoying themselves with 'nifty' moves on the dance floor, singing at the top of their voices, telling stories, laughing and more laughing.
So with regards to myself, like many people I have suffered from periods of stress resulting in low concentration and focus, long nights of learning, poor food choices (despite being a nutritionist) with little or no exercise, studying for a Masters in Nutrition definitely took its toll on me, I was not feeling my best. Luckily for me, I knew this was short term and could re-balance myself quite quickly, however I realised for others this may not be the case. Headaches too have never been an issue until all of a sudden I was getting them every few months and even then I was in self denial, 'nothing to worry about it will go'! ...heard this before?
Discovering the winning combination
Wise food choices helped, however there was something lacking and it is only when I combined both nutrition and energy work did I see results quickly. Sensing the energy in the head and also the gut, confirmed to me the relationship between the gut and the brain, and how important it is to work in both areas.
So helping others with current health issues and also in preventing issues later on in life as much as possible, is what I'm here to do; there is so much that can be done with good food choices and healthy lifestyle. The brain needs certain nutrients and if lacking may disrupt its functioning, such as emotional conditions.
Continuing education is vital in order to keep up to date with latest developments which will be of benefit to clients, with this in mind as well as regular CPD days, I'm currently studying a 3 year Functional Neurology Course with two of the leading neurologists in America.
What inspires me
Although Nutrition and Energy work is important, another focus in my life is Self Realisation / Awakening, some call it Liberation or knowing your True Self. Meditation, satsangs, reading spiritual literature, volunteer work (Sals shoes) are just some of the activities that provides joy and fulfilment in my life.
However it is really 'Life' that is the true teacher, learning from yourself, from others and from situations. There are people who are truly inspirational and have guided my never ending journey, for whom I feel forever blessed that we meet again.
