"The natural healing force within each of us is the greatest force in getting well.”
Nutrition for healthy living
Using the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM) approach, the focus of Naturopathic Nutrition is on the healing power of nature, using the natural foods to help:
- Prevent any imbalance which may occur and
- Support the body if there is a current imbalance
In fact foods will support the body's own natural self healing process; however health, and that includes Brain Health is much more than the absence of an illness or ailment, it is about abundant vitality, optimum wellness and joy for life.
Why are nutrients important?
The body needs nutrients in order to function properly, the various macronutrients and micronutrients in various proportions are the tools needed to help sustain a healthy body and a healthy brain. The nutrients include carbohydrates, fats and proteins, as well as vitamins and minerals plus specific nutrients such as phytonutrients. These nutrients are needed for:
- Creation of new cells, such as in growth
- Repair of tissues, as with injuries and illness
- Production of key substances such as hormones and enzymes
- Metabolic processes, energy production
If diets are lacking in some of the nutrients, or bioavailability of nutrients is poor, then the self-healing process may take longer.
The Personalised Programme
It is wonderful that each individual is unique, each responds differently to certain circumstances and will produce different responses. Foods too will promote different reactions in people, so with Naturopathic Nutrition, the aim is to consider each person uniquely, with each plan tailored to the specific needs of the individual. A 'one-fit' approach which is typical of most diets does not take into account the individual and so often only produces short term results.
For long term results we need to look at the root cause, the underlying issue that triggers the condition. A thorough consultation can help with this and by addressing the root cause and the triggers, as well as the symptoms, together with a Personalised Programme can help in the road to recovery.
What does a Personalised Programme involve?
- Initial Consultation - 90 minutes
- Follow up consultations - 30 minutes
- Mini progress calls - 15 minutes
- E-mail support
- Health goal setting
- Food diary analysis
- Personalised nutrition and lifestyle plan
- Supplemental plan
- Current medical and nutrient interaction (if applicable)
- Recommendation on functional tests and interpretation
The body does not become out of balance over night, it can take many months or years of continual strain and stress before symptoms start to show. Therefore it can take a while for the body to self heal, some people notice improvements straight away, whilst others with more complex conditions may take longer on the road to recovery.
With this in mind the Personalised Programmes are spread over a few months, with step by step support, guidance and encouragement allowing you to fully understand and experience the healing benefits of whole natural foods. This also allows for programme review and alternation if necessary.
